Kathryn Joosten Passes Away at Age 72

Just weeks after Kathryn Joosten delivered an emotional death scene as Karen McCluskey on Desperate Housewives' season finale, the Emmy-winning thesp has passed away.

Joosten died Saturday morning from lung cancer, and was surrounded by family and friends at the time of her passing, E! News has confirmed.

She was 72.

"Kathryn passed away this morning after a valiant fight against her cancer," Nadine Jolson, Joosten's rep, told E! News. "Her family was with her. Funeral arrangements are pending. This is a terrible loss, and she fought as hard as she could." 

Her family released this statement to E! News: "The family of Kathryn Joosten, two-time Emmy winner, longtime Governor of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, lung cancer advocate, and so much more, regrets to announce that Kathryn succumbed to her 11-year battle with lung cancer today, June 2, 2012, surrounded by love and humor til the end. 

Thanks to everyone for their love and support. We are laughing through our tears. We love you, Kathy, thanks for

everything."

Joosten, who was a fixture on Housewives playing the trouble-causing, gossipy neighbor (she was originally introduced in season one as Lynette Scavo's nemesis), went on to win Emmys in 2005 and 2008 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy for her role on the show.

In a statement to E! News, Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry remembered Joosten fondly:

"The character of Mrs. McCluskey was created for a single episode. We then cast Kathryn Joosten and she infused the part with so much feisty wit and curmudgeonly bravado, we knew we had to move her onto Wisteria Lane for the run of the series. I will forever miss her, as a co-worker and as a friend."

Before joining Housewives, Joosten scored roles on Dharma and Greg, My Name is Earl, Ally McBeal and more, and was well-known for her role as Mrs. Landingham, the President of the United States' secretary, on The West Wing. 

Joosten, who spent many years working as a psychiatric nurse, kicked off her career as an actor at the age of 42. 

Bieber Gets Concussion During Concert In Paris

E! News reports that the 18 year old singer suffered a slight concussion after performing in Paris.

Biebs hit a glass wall in between songs and felt a little disoriented. Bieber finished the concert, but passed out for about 15 seconds in his dressing room afterward. 

"i will see u again Glass. I will have my revenge. BIEBER vs GLASS. MGM LAS VEGAS 2013. lol. #GottaLaughAtYourself," he tweeted.

Hilary Duff on Being A New Mom

Hilary Duff is absolutely over the moon about her 2-month old baby boy Luca.

"There's really no words to describe it," Duff told us of motherhood at Bing and DoSomething.org's kickoff event for Bing Summer of Doing in L.A. "It's the most incredible thing every day. It softens you so much. I feel like a big mushy ball."

"We go out like once a week together and try and do something fun," the 24-year-old said. "We either go to dinner…we're going to go bowling next week. It's weird scheduling so much because we used to do things on a whim and no we have to schedule. But it's good. It's really important for your relationship."

As for how Comrie, 31, is as a dad, Duff gushed, "He's really incredible. He's so hands-on, so thoughtful, so loving. He's really a natural, it's incredible. I got really lucky."

Duff says they won't be having any more little ones any time soon. "Obviously we want more kids but we want to really enjoy Luca. I'm young. I still want to work and I feel like I have a lot to do."

Speaking of work, Duff is jumping back in the music studio. "I'm getting kind of nervous," she dished. "Next week I have all these meetings set with different producers and writers. I'm excited to start that process and I'm so nervous."

The three Kardashian sisters were not thee because of work commitments but sent their thoughts and wishes through their social media sites.

Kim Kardashian, 31, took to Twitter writing, “Congratulations to my step brother and his gorgeous new wife!”

Khloe and Kourtney wrote on their official blogs about the nuptials.

“I just wanted to send a HUGE congratulations and so much love to my brother Brandon and his fiancé/soon-to-be wife Leah. Wishing you both all the happiness in the world!” Khloe, 27, said.

Meanwhile, the pregnant reality star, 33, had more well wishes, writing “I want to wish a huge congratulations to my step brother Brandon and his stunning fiance Leah who are marrying today. Sending my love to you both.”
